The goal of the game is to have the best 5-card hand. The best hands win the pot, which is the sum of all the bets placed during a single deal. There are many different varieties of the game, but they all tend to share some aspects:

During a betting interval (determined by the rules of the particular variant being played), one player makes a bet of at least as many chips as the player before him. Each player must either call the bet, raise it, or drop. If a player doesn’t want to bet, they can “check” (pass on their turn).

The strength of a Poker hand is determined by the rank of the cards in the hand and the suit. For example, a high card beats a pair of twos. If a player holds five cards of the same rank, they have a straight.

There is also a bluffing element to the game, which adds to its appeal. A good Poker player will read their opponents and try to figure out how strong their hands are. This is done by studying their body language and other tells.

Poker is a card game that is played by two or more players for several rounds of betting.
