Poker is a card game where the aim is to bet your best hand against your opponent’s best hand. Each player in a game must ante an amount of money (varies with the game) and bet into a central pot. The highest-ranking hand wins the pot. Betting proceeds clockwise from the dealer to the first player. After all players have bet, the dealer must offer his shuffled pack to a player who has cut it.

Chips are also easier to handle than cash and it’s easier to keep track of them. Players often prefer to play with chips instead of cash because they’re easier to count, track, and make change. Each chip represents a different dollar amount. Several types of chips can be used to play the same hand.
The standard hand ranking is based on odds. For instance, a hand with five of a kind beats a straight flush. Moreover, wild cards can increase the chances of making a five-of-a-kind, the highest hand in poker. Its high rank is also known as a “high pair.”
